Inauguration Cerem Radio Frequency (RF) Microwave Design, High Performance Computing(HPC) and Human-Machine Interface Labs

During more than 10 years of establishment and development with current financial autonomy, International University (IU) has spent considerable investment budget for scientific research, constructing modern laboratories to serve and promote the training – research quality so as to meet the urgent needs of the public and society. In order to obtain these achievements, it is thanks to the attention and investment from the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Vietnam National University - HCMC, combined with the industry linkage as well as the utilization of available resources from the enterprises. Recognizing the importance of in-depth scientific research which can be applied in life and satisfy the practical and urgent needs of humans, International University has completed the construction of three laboratories of Radio Frequency (RF) Microwave Design, High Performance Computing (HPC) and Human – Machine Communication.

To celebrate the ceremony of 20-year establishment of Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City and mark the 10-year establishment of International University, on June 19, 2014, IU organized the "Inauguration Ceremony of Radio Frequency (RF) Microwave Design, High Performance Computing (HPC) and Human – Machine Communication Labs" with the following details:

INTRODUCTION

1. RADIO FREQUENCY (RF) MICROWAVE DESIGN LAB

The overall objectives of Radio Frequency (RF) Microwave Design Lab construction and investment are:

  • Train and research in the field of high technology about Ultra high frequency engineering and High-frequency Super Circuit to meet the development of wireless technology in both civil and national defense areas;
  • Technology transfer for civil and national defense areas such as Radar, transceiver circuit, high frequency chip and antenna;
  • Provide RF test equipment and super high frequency solutions;
  • In-depth training for Masters and PhD programs.

Radio Frequency (RF) Microwave Design Lab would be a good platform to strengthen cosmopolitan research cooperation (for example, the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign, University of California, San Diego; Agilent Company, Texas Instruments - USA). Each year, School of Electrical Engineering will invite about 3 foreign professors to research and work in order to effectively promote and develop the set goals.

Total investment capital: over 27 billion VND, (capital from National budget accounts for 61.1%, from the corresponding capital of International University, VNU - HCMC is 38.9%).

2. HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTING (HPC) LAB

Computational Science (CS), is considered the third pillar (along with theoretical and empirical) in the field of knowledge discovery, contribute to the science and technique revolution. The rapid development of computer and information technology has contributed to strengthen the role of computational science to research and education in a significant way in the past few decades. CS has become the only existing solution for many problems that so far can not be solved by theoretical or empirical research.

Recognizing the enormous potential of computational science in promoting the progress of science and traditional techniques as well as the development of infrastructure such as e-science network, cloud computing applications for e-learning and e-commerce, International University has established High Performance Computing laboratory to develop synchronously Calculation Science and Technology.

Total investment capital: funding from Fair Field Company (machinery - equipment, infrastructure installation) and more than 300 million VND from corresponding capital of International University.

3. HUMAN – MACHINE COMMUNICATION LABS

Human – Machine Communication Lab of Industrial and Systems Engineering Department is established with aims to create an environment for students to practice the automatic control in the industry through the interface between humans and computers. The laboratory is currently equipped with 3-axis CNC milling machine, experimental set of electric control signal, Arduino, Raspberry communication control circuit, PLC device, robot arm, RFID devices. In particular, starting from the first year, students can participate in subjects/projects using laboratory to produce simulation models of industrial systems.

Total investment capital: over 2 billion VND, (capital from National budget accounts for 1.8 billion, the remaining from the corresponding capital of International University, VNU-HCMC).
