After 4 working days (12 - 15 December 2017), the International Conference of Space Science and Technology was successfully hold at International University by the university, alongside with the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) - Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The conference was organized to promote collaborative research activities in space science and technology between Vietnam and East Asia nations.
Some topics discussed at the conference includes Space Science (Solar Physics, Planetary Science, Planets exploration within the solar system) and Applied Satellite Technology (remote sensing, positioning, small satellite, rockets). There were many experts attending the conference, including experts from Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), SOKENDAI University, Japan, Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI - Korea), Institute of Astronomy & Astrophysics, Academia Sinica (Taiwan).
The conference welcomed about 70 domestic and international experts, with 43 scientific reports presented within four days, from 12 to 15 December 2017. Among them are some reports focusing on Space Science and Space Engineering. On the first working day, Japanese, Taiwanese, South Korean, American, and Vietnamese professors presented Space Research activities in Japan, the development of Astronomy in Taiwan, studies of solar and space weather of Korea. Some technology-related topics such as the manufacturing and launching of small satellites for science and application, materials science in zero-gravity environment, and future launching projects were also reported. On the last day of the conference, collaborative activities between Vietnam and other nations were the main topic, especially in supporting and developing the training program of Space Engineering at International University.
Although the undergraduate program of Space Engineering at International University has just been opened in 2016, there were great efforts and development in the application of satellite technology (processing, analyzing signals, satellite images, remote sensing and satellite positioning). With the purpose of meeting the nation’s demand for high quality human resources in the application of satellite technology in the social life, resource, environment and territorial management, sea, islands and national security. International University is the first to develop the undergraduate program of Space Engineering in Vietnam with two main divisions: Space Science and Space Engineering.
The Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) was founded in 1964 at the University of Tokyo to connect space scientists and engineers for the development of Space Science. ISAS’s main activities includes studying of the origin, structure of the universe and solar system to learn about the history of the Earth and the solar system, experimenting the zero-gravity environment, developing space technology in preparation for further exploration. During its 50 years of development, ISAS has successfully launched 27 scientific satellites and spaceships. In 1981, ISAS became the connecting hub of research organizations and universities in Japan. In 2003, ISAS joined the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency JAXA and quickly became one of its four main institutions
